In Nin Do, the Silent Way, and other traditions, it is held that there will come a point when a member of a ryu will inherit the mantle of a given system. It is in this context that Dr. T. Broussard is known as the acting Soke of the Komuso Ryu of Nin Do, having inherited the Komuso Ryu of Nin Do from the Akutagawa faction of the Yamashiro Family within the Koga Clan via the works of Grandmaster Ashida Kim. It is through the Ninjitsu of Ashida Kim that the Silent Way became the foundation for the martial way of the present Komuso Ryu of Nin Do. This foundation in Ninjitsu led to the study and incorporation of Fu Jow Pai, Yen Sin Shu, Wing Chun, the Ghost Palm form of Dim Mak and Koura Kaze No Michi. A constant thread through all of these martial arts is a focus on balancing the martial and the mundane with the esoteric and the spiritual. It is this balance that led Dr. T. Broussard into the study of theology and the occult as found through various cultures around the world; this led to Dr. T. Broussard becoming an ordained minister as well as an author on all of these topics. It is important to state that Dr. T. Broussard is a “Doctor of Martial Science” via Shinja University and makes no claim of being a medical professional of any kind. The Soke began his training under Grandmaster Ashida Kim at a young age which led to study with Toshitora Yamashiro, Sifu Sui Lin, and brief study with Sifu Rob Moses before the Sifu’s death. It is important that it be understood that while the Soke honors his teachers and guides along the way, it is Grandmaster Ashida Kim that the Soke affirms as the root of his path. It is through Grandmaster Ashida Kim that the Soke become a member of the Black Dragon Fighting Society, the Kokuryukai, which led to the Soke also becoming a member of the Black Lotus Society.

As the name of the ryu implies, Komuso being readable as Monk of the Void, the Soke aims to live as, and aid in the training of, individuals that are whole unto themselves and able to live freely in the world and thrive in spite of the systems of the world and those that imagine they are in control of those systems. For this Soke, the Komuso being able to come and go at will represents freedom in both a mundane and a spiritual sense of individual autonomy. It is not without meaning that the Komuso, as from the Fuke School of Zen is one of the traditional guises of the ninja on his mission or when traveling on the stage of the world via accepted accounts of the ninja and their art. It is important to understand that while assassination was one of the traditional tasks of a ninja in the past, the focus for this Soke, and for Komuso Nin Do, is applying the insights of the Silent Way to life in order to endure, prevail, and triumph as one does one’s will in life on the stage of the world. It is this sense of freedom, backed by its equal responsibility, that the Soke aims to embody and cultivate in those that take up this path. It can be frankly said that the Soke has been this path for a lifetime and sees its call to freedom as being for all that are open to such.

It is important to state that while a life long martial artist the Soke has never fought in any sort of sports context. The Soke has only ever fought when himself or others has been in danger, and only when martial means were the best tool to be used. It is held by this ryu “One plans for circumstances that may arise but one has control over the reactions to the circumstances as they actually arise, no matter what one’s plans are or may be.” In short, to be frank, the Soke is confident in his skills not because all accept them or praise them but rather because through them the Soke is not only alive but thriving in a present age that casts individualism as a problem. It is held by this Soke that the proof of this path and the one that teaches it is to be found in whether or not one’s life is improved by this path and whether or not the life that one creates reflects one’s will.
